Born in Lithuania, the son of a Rabbi, David Aronson immigrated as a young man and settled with his family in Boston, Massachusetts. It was here that he called forth experiences of his heritage to form the groundwork of his art.

After receiving degrees from Boston Museum School and the Hebrew Teachers College, Aronson accepted a post as professor at the Boston Museum School. He is currently Professor of Art at Boston University’s Art Department of which he is both founder and head. He is also an Associate at the prestigious National Academy of Design.

Aronson’s work has been seen in numerous exhibitions in this country and abroad, including the Art Institute of Chicago, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, Royal Academy of Art, London, Palais des Beaux Arts, Brussels, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Museum of Modern Art, New York, and the Smithsonian Institution.
